Abstracts
Abstracts should contain a maximum of 200 words and be written in English. Since they will be distributed in printed form, we recommend that non-native speakers have their text proofread. The deadline for submission is 15 July 2015.
Please note that Invited Speakers must be registered (until 15 June 2015 at the latest) for the conference before submitting their abstract. After that step, Invited speakers need to submit their abstract here until 15 July 2015 at the latest. Only one abstract may be submitted per speaker.

Publication in a monograph
The organizing committee of the conference plans to publish the papers in a printed monograph. It is intended to publish with Harrasowitz, Wiesbaden.
More information regarding style and the submission deadline will follow in due course.
The deadline for submitting the manuscript in Word and as PDF plus illustrations and plans in printable quality will be 15 October 2016. Submission to be announced.
Conference theme
The conference will focus at the urbanization of Central Asia, defined in geographical terms as comprising Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Southern Siberia. Themes shall be the development of urbanization, its development over time, periods of decline, patterns of rise and decay of urban cultures, correlation with economic, demographic and ecological developments, the influence from outside on Central Asia and the influence from Central Asia exerted on cultures outside of Central Asia, etc.
The papers presented should be based upon new archaeological investigations, surveys and discoveries. The papers should be the result of original research and should not be a restatement of material and data already available somewhere else in secondary literature. Papers that have been published elsewhere are not accepted.
Oral presentations will be limited to 25 minutes plus discussion.
Infrastructure and accommodation for Invited Speakers
The invitation (after the submitted abstract has been successfully accepted by the local committee) includes the access to all plenary sessions during the Urban cultures of Central Asia Conference 2016 (4 - 6 February 2016), including Food & Beverages and accommodation during the conference (booked & arranged by the local committee). For technical reasons of flight schedules of participants arriving from Central Asia, the accommodation may be extended to Wednesday 3 February 2016 if needed.
Participants wishing to stay at another hotel will have to organize and finance such individual accommodations themselves.
Travel grants for Invited Speakers
The Society has a limited fund to support international travel in economy class of Invited Speakers. If you would like to be considered for financial support, please submit the online Travel Grant Application. The deadline for the Travel Grant Application is 15 July 2015. Applicants will be informed within two weeks, if their grant application has been accepted.
